Project Spotlight: The City of Copperton Courts

Copperton Park, a central gathering space in Copperton, Utah, has long been a cherished site for local recreation and community events. Established in 1926 by the Utah Copper Company, the park combines natural beauty and history with a growing need for modern amenities.

Following years of local demand, the Copperton Metro Township recognized this and committed to updating its sports facilities to accommodate tennis and pickleball players. This case study highlights the project’s objectives, SportsWest Constructions' role in meeting community needs, and the key elements of the work planned.

Project Scope

In recent years, the popularity of pickleball has surged nationwide, mirrored by Copperton residents’ use of makeshift nets across the park. In response, Copperton secured funding from the Salt Lake County TRCC Board in 2024 to resurface the park’s two aging tennis courts, dedicating space for four pickleball courts while maintaining one tennis court. Our construction team was selected to bring this vision to life, handling every project phase, from initial site assessments to final installation, with a commitment to maintaining Copperton’s unique character.

Our Role in the Community Enhancement

Our company was awarded the contract to resurface Copperton Park’s tennis facilities, balancing the need for cost-effective design with sustainable reuse of the existing court footprint and fencing. To optimize resources, we worked closely with Copperton’s planning staff and council to finalize the design, allowing both sports to coexist within the original court layout, enhancing usability without needing additional lighting or new fencing.

Key elements of our work include:

  • Site Assessment and Design Finalization: Collaborated with town representatives to evaluate the current courts and determine optimal layouts, retaining existing infrastructure wherever feasible.
  • Resurfacing and Painting: Applied high-quality acrylic surface treatments in the council-selected blue and green color scheme, creating a durable and visually appealing finish.
  • Installation: Set up surface-mounted Dominator pickleball net systems—four in total—specifically chosen to offer versatility and minimal impact on the existing surfaces.

Project Timeline

We have coordinated our work to fit the town’s specified window, scheduling resurfacing from July 24 to August 23. This timeline allows ample preparation for completing all installations and inspections by the project’s deadline of November 22, 2024.

Highlights and Benefits for Copperton

This project aligns with Copperton’s long-term goal to enhance park facilities in a way that respects both its historical roots and evolving community needs. By maintaining the park’s tennis court while introducing four new pickleball courts, we’ve expanded recreational offerings without compromising Copperton’s unique heritage.

The Copperton Park project showcases our commitment to building not just courts, but also strong, adaptable spaces that support community wellness and interaction for years to come.

Pushing the limits of possibility, court by court.
